Intersection Improvements

Project Description

  

  • The intersection design addresses the dangerous left turns from Folly Road onto Old Folly Road and from Old Folly Road onto Maybank Highway. The new design includes mast-arm signals (stoplights) to be added to the intersections to allow traffic to turn safely from Folly Road onto Old Folly Road and from Old Folly Road onto Maybank Highway.
  • New, landscaped medians with lighting and irrigation will be added to Maybank Highway, Folly Road and Old Folly Road. Sidewalks with pedestrian lighting will be added along Maybank Highway, Folly Road and Old Folly Road.
  • The entire project area will be repaved and will have new pavement markings including crosswalks and signs. New stormwater drainage facilities will also be added, including a new 60-inch drainage pipe crossing underneath Maybank Highway and continuing under Wappoo Creek Drive, and all new curbs and gutters along the project area.

 

Project Status (updated January 26, 2010)

    • The storm drain work on Folly Road, Maybank Highway and Old Folly Road is complete. All utilities on the project have been relocated.
    • The installation of the new traffic signal at Maybank Highway and Old Folly Road has begun.
    • The installation of the landscaped median islands has begun.
    • The installation of the new curb and gutter, and the sidewalk, is approximately 90% complete.
    • The drainage work across Wappoo Creek Drive should be completed with the next few weeks.

Traffic Alerts (updated January 26, 2010)

 

The contractor is in the process of building the landscaped median islands along Folly Road, Maybank Highway and Old Folly Road during the next month. Nightly lane closure will occur in these areas through February. One lane of travel in each direction will be maintained at all times to provide access to traffic.
