Folly Road & Maybank Highway Intersection Improvements:

To properly assess citizens' concerns and ideas, a series of public information meetings will be conducted to solicit and gather the public thoughts and opinions on the Folly Road at Maybank Highway Intersection Project. A meeting was held with a homeowners association on March 28, 2006 to present the public involvement process of the Folly Road at Maybank Highway Intersection project.

This public involvement process begins early in the design process and continues through the development of prudent and feasible options, then ultimately on to plans for construction. The RoadWise main focus in this process is to encourage public input and active participation. The result is the public plays an integral role in the determination and design of the proposed intersection improvements. 

The initial public meeting was held on Thursday, May 25 at Harbor View Elementary School from 7 pm to 9 pm with 32 attendees. Comments were received and PBS&J has summarized the comments for RoadWise review.

The City presented an additional alternative to RoadWise staff in October that included new traffic signals on Old Folly Road at the intersections with Maybank and Folly Road. RoadWise and PBS&J have reviewed the traffic operations and potential impacts of this alternative.  The consultant is preparing public meeting displays for the next public meeting. The LPA Group is revising the preliminary traffic study to include the additional traffic signal alternative submitted by the City of Charleston.

Update: March 16, 2007
The second public meeting was held March 15, 2007 at Harbor View Elementary School. 89 citizens were in attendance. Public comments received at the meeting can be view below and the alternatives presented at the meeting are also listed below.
