Intersection Improvements

Project Description

  

  • The intersection design addresses the dangerous left turns from Folly Road onto Old Folly Road and from Old Folly Road onto Maybank Highway. The new design includes mast-arm signals (stoplights) to be added to the intersections to allow traffic to turn safely from Folly Road onto Old Folly Road and from Old Folly Road onto Maybank Highway.
  • New, landscaped medians with lighting and irrigation will be added to Maybank Highway, Folly Road and Old Folly Road. Sidewalks with pedestrian lighting will be added along Maybank Highway, Folly Road and Old Folly Road.
  • The entire project area will be repaved and will have new pavement markings including crosswalks and signs. New stormwater drainage facilities will also be added, including a new 60-inch drainage pipe crossing underneath Maybank Highway and continuing under Wappoo Creek Drive, and all new curbs and gutters along the project area.

 

Project Status (updated June 8, 2010)

    • The major work items on the project have been completed.
    •  The new stoplight at Old Folly Road and Maybank Highway was put into "flash" mode on June 8, 2010 to warn motorists that the light will be activated soon.
    • The new stoplight is scheduled to be activated the week of June 14, 2010.
