MUSC Roadway Infrastructure Improvements
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Infrastructure Improvement Project will improve the vehicular moments into and around the MedicalUniversity during peak hour and provided area drainage relief along Bee Street area. The major components of the project improvements are as follows:
· The conversion of Courtenay Drive from Spring Street to Cannon Street from two-way traffic to one-way traffic.
· The widening of Courtenay Drive to include a right hand turn lane onto Bee Street.
· The widening of Courtenay Drive to accommodate two additional lanes from Cannon Street to approximately 200’ south of Doughty Street
· The complete demolition, excavation and reconstruction of Bee Street from Courtenay Drive to Lockwood Boulevard 1,384’ with limited improvements to Bravo Street and Cherry Street.
· The inclusion of the relocation of approximately 1,160’ of existing twelve inch (12”) water line along Bee Street from Courtenay Drive to Lockwood Boulevard.
· Improvements to roadway and offsite drainage were designed in coordination with the city of Charleston to compliment pending improvements to the areas as part of the Spring/Fishbourne Drainage Improvement project. The drainage improvements include new catch basins and larger size reinforced concrete pipes.
· Traffic signal upgrades will be made at the intersections of Cannon Street and Courtenay Drive and Bee Street and Courtenay Drive intersections. The upgraded traffic signals will include pedestrian hand/man signal heads for the improved cross walks which will be provided with the project.
