On the Job Training Program

 

Background

On the Job Training (OJT) is an activity embraced by Charleston County Government as a way to promote diversity and provide employment opportunities for individuals who are unemployed or underemployed.

 

Charleston County developed its OJT Program to recruit, hire and train employees in occupational areas needed by the County and also by vendors who are awarded road construction contracts under the Transportation Sales Tax RoadWise program.

 

Charleston County residents receive first consideration of OJT opportunities that are created as a result of contract awards.

 

Who should apply for the OJT Program:

  • Individuals who are unemployed or underemployed
  • Individuals interested in a construction or transportation related career
  • Individuals who are 18-years-old or older
  • Individuals who are physically able to meet the rigorous demands of training
  • Individuals with basic construction knowledge
  • Charleston County residents

OJT Program benefits:

  • Paid skill training
  • Possible continued employment upon training completion
